“Healing begins when we learn to approach ourselves with curiosity, compassion, and understanding”

Graduate Level Counselor - Mary Alexander

Many of us spend years trying to outrun, fix, manage, or silence the parts of ourselves that feel anxious, overwhelmed, angry, stuck, or not enough. We tell ourselves we should be stronger, calmer, more confident, or somehow different than we are. Yet lasting change rarely comes from self-criticism. In my experience, healing begins when we learn to approach ourselves with curiosity, compassion, and understanding.

I believe therapy offers a space to slow down and explore the experiences, relationships, and patterns that have shaped us. Together, we can make sense of what feels confusing, uncover strengths that may have been forgotten, and develop a deeper connection to ourselves. My goal is to create a warm, supportive environment where you feel safe to bring your whole self, without judgment, pressure, or the need to have everything figured out.

I am a graduate level counselor currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Winthrop University. Prior to entering the counseling profession, I spent more than eleven years in private practice as a naturopath, where I developed a deep appreciation for the connection between emotional well-being, physical health, and personal growth. These experiences continue to inform my belief that healing involves the whole person.

My clinical interests include anxiety, stress, life transitions, relationship concerns, self-esteem, emotional regulation, family-of-origin issues, and the impact of difficult life experiences. I am particularly passionate about supporting individuals who find themselves carrying the weight of responsibility for others, struggling with overthinking, or feeling exhausted from trying to hold everything together on their own.

Outside of counseling, I am a mom of four who enjoys reading, going to the mountains, caring for houseplants, and spending time with my family and my Maltese, Penny. I also believe in the restorative power of a good nap and am never opposed to unwinding with an episode of The Real Housewives after a long day.

Life can be complicated, and most of us were never taught how to make sense of everything we carry. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or simply tired of doing it all on your own, I would be honored to provide a space where we can slow down, explore what matters most, and work toward meaningful change together.
